Documentation Universal Shipping Introduction

Universal Shipping

With Universal Shipping you can provide Parcelify shipping rates at checkout without the need for Shopify CCS. This feature is especially useful for merchants on Shopify Starter, Basic, and ‘Shopify’† plans where CCS is not available.

Shopify offers CCS separately for $20 USD per month for customers on a ‘Shopify’ level subscription

Installation

New customers

If you are installing Parcelify for the first time and don’t have CCS, Universal Shipping will be enabled by default.

Existing customers

If you are currently using another version of Parcelify and would like to use Universal Shipping, please email us at support@parcelify.com and we will guide you forward.

How it works

Once Parcelify is installed and Universal Shipping is enabled, customers will be able to check out as usual. We will automatically create and adjust rate(s) so that they match your Parcelify settings at checkout. After that your customer can confirm payment information and complete checkout normally. It’s that easy.

Rate Tiers

As this solution requires manipulating Shopify shipping rates - discounting them to the correct price - we’ve provided a way for you to indicate how many and how spread apart these rates are.

Important: Your highest rate must be greater than your maximum shipping amount. For example: if the highest amount you will charge for shipping is $125, set the last shipping tier to more than that amount.

The Universal Shipping dialog rate tiers. This element is broken down into two sections: Data Limits and Rate Tiers. A green arrow in the Rate Tiers section is pointing to a blue ink that says 'Edit'

The expanded Universal Shipping rate tiers dialog. In the top right is a blue "Done" link to cancel and close editing tiers. Five tiers are listed: $0, $10, $25, $50, and $100. Underneath these text entries is a disabled Add Tier button (you can only add five tiers) and a black Save button

Limitations

Due to the technology underlying Universal Shipping, there is a limit to the complexity of shipping rates you can provide using this solution.

The two types of limits are:

  • Shopify Limits the length of data your Parcelify configuration can be
  • Parcelify Configuration Limits, which attempt to manage these Shopify Limits by restricting how many zones, rates, and prices you may create, as well as the length of certain fields. These limits are flexible and can be adjusted by Parcelify support

For more details about how these values are determined and how to get the most out of Universal Shipping while staying within these limits, please proceed to the next page: Limitations
